Born in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, he began karate at the age of 10 (in the fifth grade of elementary school) at his local Kanamachi Dojo. He learned Goju-ryu karate from Masters Terada and Konno, attending the dojo until his third year of junior high school. He entered Teikyo High School, which had a karate club, and studied Shito-ryu karate under Masters Sobue Toshihisa and Sobue Gentaro. He won the Inter-High School Championships in his third year of high school. He then went on to Kokushikan University. During his first year of university, he met Yoshimi Inoue of Tottori Prefecture through an introduction from his university coach. He trained with him and won the World Junior and Cadet Championships, subsequently passing the national team test. In his fourth year of university, he won the All-Japan Karate Championship. After graduating from university, he moved to Tottori Prefecture and aimed to become the best in the world under Master Inoue. In his third year of training in Tottori Prefecture, he competed in the World Championships, but finished third. Two years later, in 2012, he won the gold medal at his second World Championships. He retired the following year in 2013. He then became a coach for the national team. He went on to study at Kokushikan University's Graduate School of Sport Systems, where he served as a full-time coach for the Karate Club for two years. He also promoted karate as a KARATE ambassador in preparation for its inclusion in the Tokyo Olympics. In 2015, he moved to Tottori Prefecture and became the chairman of the training committee for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He currently works as a special physical education instructor for the Tottori Prefectural Sports Association, a public interest incorporated foundation. He coaches domestic and international athletes and promotes karate.
